Work has just begun at EHOVE Career Center for a renovation and construction project to enhance and expand services for our community. As high school and adult education enrollment continues to rise, EHOVE is committed to providing relevant, high-tech training and equipment to meet the needs of students and local businesses that is vital to the quality of our local workforce.
EHOVE has developed a plan with design group The Collaborative of Toledo that will cover 37,050 square feet of new space and 16,400 square feet of renovated areas. The total estimated cost of the project is $13 million and is expected to be completed in July 2020. The project will have multiple phases so classes and regular operations are not impacted.
Two existing buildings will have additions to create career tech labs for the school’s culinary arts, early childhood education, teacher academy, criminal justice and firefighter/EMT programs. Renovations will also take place in the media center, cafeteria kitchen and student dining areas. The project is being designed per the ENERGY STAR standard by using LED lighting, approved electronics and energy-efficient equipment, and combining HVAC systems in existing spaces with new areas to minimize additional utility expenses.
Adena Corporation has been selected as the Construction Manager at Risk to consult with architects and other construction professionals. This process is designed to spend tax dollars in the most cost-effective way possible, while still maintaining the integrity and safety of the project. EHOVE successfully utilized this method with Adena Corporation for its previous facility project in 2014. That project consisted of 66,700 square feet of renovations and new construction of high-tech classrooms, state-of-the-art science labs, flexible spaces for use by the community and staff, technology training and support areas, and reconfigured office spaces for Student Services and Administration.
EHOVE has committed to work extensively with local construction professionals on this project. Having a continued partnership with local businesses will ensure EHOVE students have the latest training, equipment and skills necessary to meet the needs of our area employers, while also creating jobs for local workers and a boost to our local economy. Local contractors who are confirmed to work on the project include Mark’s Excavating, Hermes Parker, Firelands Fabrication, Midwest Environmental, Wasiniak Construction, CRM, Interstate Glass, Valley Interiors, Lakeside Interiors, Breckenridge, Custom Fabricators, All State Fire Protection, Bay Mechanical & Electrical and Precision Paving.
