EHOVE Adult Career Center is proud to announce that Benjamin Wilhelm of Milan has been selected as the winner of the EHOVE School of Surgical Technology Preceptor of the Year Award.

Wilhelm is a 2006 graduate of EHOVE Adult Career’s Surgical Technology occupational program.  He is a Certified Surgical First Assistant at Fisher Titus Medical Center, where he has been employed for 13 years.

Preceptors are key to students’ training at the clinical sites.  They support students from EHOVE’s program while they are learning during surgical procedures at Fisher Titus.  Preceptors are scrubbed in with the students and assist with educating them on procedures and doctors’ preferences. They are an integral part of the student learning process as students must complete 560 hours of clinical experience and 120 cases in the various surgical specialties.

"I'm so pleased that multiple students chose to nominate him!” said EHOVE Surgical Technologist Instructor Joey Butcher. “Ben has an incredible way of not only explaining the surgical procedures to a student, but also to build their confidence and put them in control of their surgical cases. He is exceptional at understanding both his job and the anatomy itself, which is something many technologists develop over the years. This is a very special moment for me, as Ben was not only my preceptor as a student, but he also oriented me after I became a staff member. Every student deserves a Ben to excite them about their decision and their future career."

This annual award was sponsored by EHOVE and Fisher Titus.  Of 13 total nominees for the award, Wilhelm was nominated by three different students currently in the EHOVE Surgical Technology program.  Nominations were shared with managers at the clinical sites to pass along how their preceptors are making a difference in educating students.
