PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced that the PPG Foundation invested $10,000 in the STEM in the Park event presented by the Northwest Ohio Center for Excellence in STEM Education at Bowling Green State University. The foundation also donated $5,000 to The Mavericks (FRC 2252), EHOVE Career Center’s FIRST® Robotics team in Milan, Ohio. The donations were made on behalf of PPG’s architectural coatings plant and distribution center in Huron.

STEM in the Park is a free community event designed to engage children in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. It provides families, teachers, and the community with the chance to explore STEM careers, partake in STEM activities and experience a local university with the goal of increasing youth interest in the sciences. The next annual STEM in the Park will be held Sept. 22, 2018.

FIRST Robotics is a mentor-based, research and robotics program that helps students become science and technology leaders as well as well-rounded contributors to society.

“PPG is committed to increasing educational opportunities for young people,” said Jaime Westhause, PPG distribution center manager, Huron. “By enabling students to explore these areas and gain pertinent skills necessary to succeed in technical fields such as advanced manufacturing, we can help them gain invaluable experience and their interest in STEM careers”

“STEM in the Park will bring the community together for a fun educational experience that will showcase opportunities available in the STEM field and ultimately encourage students to explore STEM careers,” added Dave Kuhn, PPG plant manager, Huron.
