Manufacturing Industry:  Engineering Tech TECH PREP

Collaborative Program of EHOVE Career Center and BGSU/Firelands College

   Program Highlights:

• Invent, design, and produce solutions for complex engineering challenges from concept to completion

• Explore mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering using math and science

• Experience advanced Robotics, Electronics, Computer Aided Design, and Computer Aided Machining technologies


    


Head Start on Associate Degrees in:

  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering
    Manufacturing, testing, trouble-shooting, sales, and field service of electronic, computer, and electrical systems.
  • Mechanical/Engineering & Technology             
    Production and manufacturing techniques, management strategies, and principles of engineering design preparing graduates for employment in manufacturing, mechanical design, and quality control.
  • Technical Study
    The Associate of Technical Study is designed to help students to prepare individually for specialized technical occupations.

Personal Qualities:

  • Self-motivated/Self-starter
  • Organized
  • A mechanical aptitude

Equipment Students Will Use:

  • Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine
  • Lathes and Drill Presses
  • Milling Machine
  • Precision Measuring Equipment
  • Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Robots
  • Computers

TECH PREP Acceptance Guidelines:

For acceptance into the Engineering Industrial TECH PREP program, you should have:

  • A strong interest in engineering or manufacturing
  • Junior status at your high school
  • “C” average or better in Algebra and Science
  • 2.5 or better overall Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Recommendation of high school counselor or principal
  • Interest in post-secondary technical education

Final acceptance determined through an interview with TECH PREP staff members and acceptable scores on College Placement Tests.

Get Involved

Engineering Technician students will become members of Skills USA VICA, an association of trades and industry students. Skills USA VICA allows students to participate in competitive events, fund-raisers, community service projects and social chapter activities.

They can also become members of the award-winning Mavericks Team #2232.  The Mavericks participate in various regional FIRST Robotics competitions, and advanced to the national competition in 2007.
