SkillsUSA Automated Manufacturing Team Takes 8th At Nationals
June 29, 2009
A team of three EHOVE students enrolled in the Engineering College Tech Prep program took eighth place out of 37 teams at National SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City, MO, June 22 – 26.
Tech Prep is a partnership
between EHOVE and Firelands BGSU in which students earn college
credits while finishing high school requirements.
SkillsUSA is the national organization for students in trade,
industrial, technical and health occupations education. It sponsors
the Skills USA Championships annually to recognize the achievements
of career tech students and to encourage them to strive for
excellence and pride in their chosen occupations.
The team of Jessica Heydinger, (Norwalk); Adam
Rectanus (Bellevue) and Cory Williams (South Central)
earned a Top Ten berth after demonstrating their knowledge of
computer aided drafting/design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing
(CAM), and computer numerical controlled machining (CNC). During
the timed event, CAD operators construct the part geometry; the CAM
operator generates the tool paths; and the CNC operator sets up and
machines the part. This is best performance by an EHOVE team in
four times at the national event. EHOVE Engineering instructors are
Jim McIntyre and Steve Spriggs.
