Valuable leadership training

For six days in the middle of January, EHOVE Firefighter/EMT senior Alexis Adkins (Norwalk HS) absorbed all the knowledge she could while at the SkillsUSA Regional Officer Training Institute in Washington D.C.  Focusing on SkillsUSA’s pillars of Compassion, Hope, Trust and Stability, Adkins participated in leadership training designed for regional SkillsUSA officers to first learn, then bring back to their schools and fellow classmates.

“It was one of the best experiences I’ve had through EHOVE,” said Adkins.  “The days were long and exhausting but there was never a dull moment.  It’s all about being at a vocational school and being around positive people who are passionate about careers and SkillsUSA.”

After graduation, Adkins plans to attend Wright State University to major in athletic training.  Her career goals are to work as an athletic trainer and part-time Firefighter/EMT.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.  The Ohio chapter provides its 31,500+ career-technical education members, which includes many EHOVE students, the opportunity to participate in local, regional, state and national competitive events, and encourages students to give back to the community through various community service activities.
