A group of six EHOVE students joined hundreds of other high school students and advisors from high schools throughout Ohio at Hocking College from July 11-15 for the SkillsUSA Leadership Conference which is sponsored by the Ohio Army National Guard.  Students received the necessary training to lead their local chapter of SkillsUSA with activities including a creed challenge, leadership sessions, team building, college readiness and competitions.

Participating EHOVE students:

•    Shalim Magda, Medical Careers, Western Reserve HS
•    Hunter Leslie, Visual Media Tech, Bellevue HS
•    Maci Mayhorn, Cosmetology, New London HS
•    Hannah Radden, Medical Careers, Vermilion HS
•    CJ Swander, Firefighter/EMT, Perkins HS
•    Sonny Flak, Firefighter/EMT, Vermilion HS

“The students grow as leaders and bond with other student across the state of Ohio,” said SkillsUSA Advisor Fay Felske who attended the conference with the students and is also the Medical Careers Instructor at EHOVE.  “None of the students ever go home wishing they did not attend.  They are fired up about the school year so they can implement what they have learned.”

Each of the students and Felske earned a Statesman Award by participating in the leadership and competitive events at the conference.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.  The Ohio chapter provides its 31,500+ career-technical education members, which includes many EHOVE students, the opportunity to participate in local, regional, state and national competitive events, and encourages students to give back to the community through various community service activities.
