Communications awards for EHOVE

The Ohio School Public Relations Association (OHSPRA) recognized EHOVE Career Center and Communications Coordinator Kendra Ward with five Mark of Excellence Awards during its annual state Spring Conference in Columbus, Ohio on April 16.

These achievement awards recognize exemplary school public relations and marketing efforts and were judged by professionals in the field.  The competition was open to all public or private schools and districts, career and vocational centers and education-related organizations across the state.

Ward accepted five awards, one each in the categories of social media, website and special purpose publication, and two awards in the video category.  Items recognized:   Social media  -  Website  -  Special purpose publication  -  Recruitment video  -  Engineering Tech video

Entries in the social media category were judged on graphic presentation/design, content/writing, clarity, appropriateness, engagement, goal and visual appeal.  Ward manages all of the school’s social media.  She answers questions and posts articles, notices, information, photos and videos on the school’s channels.

Websites were judged on content, design, writing, editing, graphic, photo and video enhancements and ease of use.  EHOVE’s unique home page layout at was conceived by Ward then created from the ground up by Upward Brand Interactions of Columbus and their excellent website designers and interactive content specialists.

Special purpose publications were judged on content, design, writing, editing, graphics, photography and print quality.  EHOVE sends a flyer to local 8th, 9th & 10th graders with an eye-catching comic book style that features current EHOVE students sharing their views and experiences as an EHOVE student.  Ward initiated the original concept of the publication and design, managed the involved students and interviews, then worked with the talented staff at Mark Advertising of Sandusky, who brought the publication to life.

Videos were judged on content, creativity, visual style, audio and production quality.  The two awards in this category were for the recruitment video and the Engineering Tech video.  Ward acted in a director-type role to organize and interview participants, assist during video shoots and consult during the editing process with Cineres Productions of Sandusky, a top notch video production company whose professionals filmed and edited the videos.
