SkillsUSA Regional Results

On Friday, February 13, students from 21 schools ranging from Toledo to Mansfield to Lima converged upon EHOVE Career Center’s campus in Milan Township.  542 students from schools in this region, including EHOVE, competed in the annual SkillsUSA Northwest Ohio Regional Championships.

Students competed in a variety of themed events mean to showcase the skills they’ve learned in their respective career fields.  Categories ranged from architectural drafting to crime scene investigation to welding.

EHOVE students were prime contenders in the championships.  They competed in individual and team events.  Overall, 32 EHOVE students finished in the top three places in 16 of the 36 events.  They won nine events, placed second in six events and placed third in five events.  See the full list of top three winners by competition.

The regional competition kicks off the SkillsUSA competition season.  The top three competitors in each of the 36 competitions will be advancing onto the SkillsUSA State Competitions, which will be held on April 14 and 15 this year.  At the State Competition, only first place (Gold) advances onto the National Competitions, which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky the week of June 22–27.

EHOVE has made a strong showing at regional, state and national competitions in recent years, even winning national titles the last two years in a row.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.  The Ohio chapter provides its 31,500+ career-technical education members, which includes many EHOVE students, the opportunity to participate in local, regional, state and national competitive events, and encourages students to give back to the community through various community service activities.
This year, SkillsUSA celebrates its 50th year as an official Career Tech Student Organization.  In the northwest region, there is a two-year rotation on hosting the regional event.  In the 2015 and 2016 school years, EHOVE Career Center will host the event.
