Journey to the workforce

Each EHOVE Adult Career Center graduate has a unique story to tell about the journey that brought them into the workforce.  For Medical Assistant graduate Amanda Pifer of Amherst, her career began when she started her externship at Mercy Health Physicians in Wellington.

Pifer graduated from EHOVE’s Medical Assistant program in 2012.  She was hired as a full time float Medical Assistant during her last week of her externship with Mercy Health Physicians.  Then, a full time position opened up in the office in which she completed her externship.

“I like the patients and the staff I work with are amazing,” said Pifer.  “The skills EHOVE taught me have staggeringly prepared me for my externship and the workforce.  The instructors are amazing, and I love the hands-on experience they provide.”

Pifer does everything in her medical office setting, from seeing newborns to giving babies shots, to administering injections in adult patients.  “We do it all,” said Pifer. “EHOVE taught us everything we might encounter in the workforce and because of that I feel prepared for anything.”

"In our growing Mercy Health Physician Practices in Lorain County, we are always looking to hire exceptionally skilled and personable CMA’s," said Cindi Keith, Area Practice Manager at Mercy Physicians.  "We have hired many new Medical Assisting graduates from the EHOVE program, as the students have been well educated and trained in the skill sets in which we are in search of that align with our Mission, Values and Promise.”
