Almost to their goal
Completion of this year’s Patient Care Technician program is on the horizon for EHOVE’S Adult Career Center students, as they finish up their phlebotomy exam and begin their practicum.
The program takes a little over a year, and students enjoy versatility in their medical career choice. Through this program students learn many skills and earn several certifications: Patient Care Technician (CPCT), Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT), EKG Technician (CET) and State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).
Patient Care Technician students Amanda Hinojosa (Norwalk) and Angelia Stempowski (Vermilion) are excited to begin their practicum. “My clinical site will be at Fisher-Titus Hospital, where I will do lab work, EKG and clinical work,” said Hinojosa. “We will be working under one mentor, and our performance will be shown to our director at EHOVE for the final portion of our program.”
Hinojosa was already an STNA when she decided to attend EHOVE and pursue more medical certifications through their Patient Care Technician program. “I feel being a Patient Care Technician will give me more possibilities and wider opportunities,” said Hinojosa.
Stempowski was also an STNA at a rehab facility and then decided to expand her opportunities in the medical field when she enrolled in the program. “I would highly recommend this program to others interested in the medical field-I feel the program is great and the instructors care so much,” said Stempowski who will be at Firelands Regional Medical Center for her practicum. “EHOVE is amazing. Our instructors take care of all our needs, give us the right skills to prepare us for the workforce, and provides hands-on and one-on-one attention.”
“The most valuable thing I learned was how to branch off and widen my horizon,” said Hinojosa. “EHOVE has allowed me to meet people and grow as a person.”
The next Patient Care Technician program will begin in March 2014. The program is limited to 15 students. Students who already have a STNA license get advance placement. If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling, contact EHOVE Adult Career Center at 419-499-4663 ext. 287.
