Perfect attendance pays off
EHOVE Career Center gave away a car to one lucky student as part of its Perfect Attendance Initiative on May 11. Students qualify as having perfect attendance if they have no absences, no tardies, and no suspensions. 31 EHOVE students had perfect attendance, and four had perfect attendance for both of their years at EHOVE.
It paid off for Engineering Tech student Matt Kelble (Margaretta HS), who has two years of perfect attendance. Kelble was the overall winner of a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue donated by Doug Brown of Sandusky, and $50 in gas cards and a Cinemark gift card. The car is in great condition and has less than 60,000 miles, but was still given the once over for safety by EHOVE Auto Tech students and a detailing job by Auto Body students.
The drawing was held during EHOVE’s Field Day, a day for the students to have fun with outdoor activities to celebrate a successful year. The 31 students were whittled down to ten finalists over the previous week of schools. Those whose names were drawn won a prize, but were eliminated from the car drawing. The remaining ten finalists were:
Joshua Hess – Edison HS*
Matt Kelble – Margaretta HS*
Jessica Twardzik – Margaretta HS*
Jake Schnee – Bellevue HS*
Cory Schindley – Bellevue HS
Kris Hill – Norwalk HS
Tyler Holcomb – Vermilion HS
Alyssa Woods – Vermilion HS
Garrett Hartman - Western Reserve HS
Brody Hopkins – Western Reserve HS
*two years of perfect attendance
These lucky ten had a chance at the car and were eliminated in the final drawing, similar to those throughout the week. It came down to Kelble and Forensic Science student Kris Hill (Norwalk HS). Kelble won the drawing, but Hill’s second place finish earned his a large flat screen TV and Wal-Mart and Cinemark gift cards.
“Good attendance and good grades go hand in hand,” said Assistant Principal Dale VanLerberghe. “Parents who realize the importance of good attendance tend to have students who do well in school.”
