Speed interviewing
One of the latest trends to hit the job market is the speed interview. The method, much like speed dating, allows both the interviewee and hiring company to assess potentially the perfect organizational fit of a candidate to their facility. It also exposes the applicant to a large number of hiring companies in a short timeframe, thereby maximizing the candidate's chance of finding a job.
EHOVE Career Center‘s Medical Assistant and Massage Therapy instructors collaborated together to bring a Speed Interviewing simulation event to their students. “We educate and provide skills training for our students, assist them in attaining their after graduation credentials, but we asked ourselves how can we help them further finding the perfect organizational fit?” said Tonya Lloyd, Medical Assistant Director/Coordinator.
“I think it is important not only to train for a position, but to help the applicant to acquire the necessary skills to get the position, by reviewing an interviewing process,” said volunteer interviewer Annie Saunders of the Huron County Auditor’s Office in her post-evaluation of the event.
The Medical Assistant and Massage Therapy students received a total of 10 interviews each. “What a fantastic opportunity for students to network with potential employers in our community and receive immediate feedback for improvement,” said Katie Fox, EHOVE Massage Therapy Coordinator.
Several students agreed that the opportunity for instant feedback and meeting interviewers from a variety of career fields and backgrounds was very helpful. “Although it was nerve-wracking, I thought it was great practice, and made me feel much more confident about the interview process,” said Michelle Boyer, EHOVE Medical Assistant student of Bellevue.
EHOVE reached out to the community and local professionals for help in the simulation and received a great response. A total of 24 community volunteers assisted in a 7 minute interview per student simulation. “We are so fortunate in our community to have so many individuals supportive and willing to donate their evening time to participate in this event,” said Lloyd.
Enrollment is open NOW for the next full-time Medical Assistant (starts in August) and Massage Therapy (starts in October) programs at EHOVE. Find out more here.
