MILAN - Students enrolled in the Engineering College Tech Prep programs at EHOVE Career Center are bound for National Skills - USA competition in Kansas City, MO, in June after earning first place in state competition April 24 and 25 in Columbus. College Tech Prep is a partnership between EHOVE and Firelands BGSU in which students earn college credits while finishing high school requirements.
SkillsUSA is the national organization for students in trade, industrial, technical and health occupations education. It sponsors the Skills USA Championships annually to recognize the achievements of career tech students and to encourage them to strive for excellence and pride in their chosen occupations.
Winning gold medals and advancing to national competition in Kansas City, MO, June 23-27 are:


Jessica Heydinger ( Norwalk); Jordan Bracken ( New London) and Kyle Mowry ( Norwalk) won a gold medal in Automated Manufacturing Technology. In this contest, a team is evaluated for employment in integrated manufacturing technology fields of computer aided drafting/design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing ( CAM), and computer numerical controlled machining (CNC). CAD operators construct the part geometry; the CAM operator generates the tool paths; and the CNC operator sets up and machines the part. This is the third win at state in the last six years in this category for Engineering College Tech Prep students!


The team of Tony Renwand ( Bellevue) and Brett Thayer ( Edison) also won a Bronze in Robotics and Automation Technology. This contest challenges two-person teams to operate a 5-axis servo-robot along with a set of sensors and motorized devices to resolve a simulated production process problem. They demonstrate and set-up a robotic workcell from a word problem task. Contestants are required to create a flow chart and sequence of operation. Teams are judged on efficiency, speed and teamwork.

Visual Communication Design student Ryan Tamburrino (Sandusky Central Catholic) won a bronze medal in Advertising and Design. He had to design the logo for a new Red Bull cola for his contest.


Visual Communication Design students Inysha Kuczma (Vermilion), Anna Noftz (Huron) and Karie Lefler ( Monroeville) also participated in the Billboard contest.
