The Career Assessment Center offers services for students with or without special needs. Any student 14 years or older can attend. Special needs students (i.e., IEP, 504) will receive priority.

Students are assigned to various work samples relating to their interests. Work performance and behaviors are observed and recorded under controlled conditions.

Here are some examples of the assessment tools we currently use:

At the completion of the assessment a detailed report is written for each student containing work behaviors, interests and job skills. This report along with specific recommendations for employment, training, or supportive services, is reviewed at the conference held at the student’s associate school.

Referrals

Teachers, work-study coordinators, guidance counselors, psychologist and school principals refer students. Parents/guardians complete and sign referral forms indicating permission for assessment. Forms are usually signed at the IEP
conference in the spring. Current emergency authorization form is mandatory.

Question:
Does attending the Career Assessment mean the student will be attending EHOVE?
Answer:
No, Career Assessment provides information regarding educational and training options.   The student needs to apply through the associate school guidance office.

Question:
Where and when will post-assessment conferences be held?
Answer:
Conferences will be held at the student’s associate school. They are scheduled approximately two weeks after the assessment. Students, parents and appropriate school staff members are encouraged to attend. At that time the Assessment Specialist will review the final report, make recommendations, and answer questions.

Students:
Provides a work setting for students with simulated hands on experiences. Helps students learn about the programs and make a program decision.

Provides families with information regarding each student’s strengths and weaknesses in relation to available career programs.

Instructors:
Provides instructors with job aptitude levels.

Work-study coordinators:
Provides coordinators with assessed skill levels of students.
